( 3 / 94 )I just came back from Cleveland! We handle the Cleveland Clinic Press and do all of their incredible books. The one thing my client wants to do more than anything is sell books through the internet. That is the future. Guess what - you are probably not going to be on Oprah or the Today Show. And probably PEOPLE MAGAZINE is not going to do a huge feature on you.
You ain't Brad Pitt! So what do you do? More and more we are selling and promoting books through the internet. E MAIL blasts that drive books to #1 on Amazon, blogging, podcasting, getting mentions on the best sites, adwords on google and other sites and now a new thing we are starting is called VIRTUAL BOOK TOURS. You will hear about them very soon.
Point is- I am not an expert- I am learning- and starting to do all this myself ( hence this blog) BUT I am hiring some of the best internet people and/or affiliating with them to offer these ( and more) services. The train has left the station- and everyone- you better jump on and learn how to do this.
More to come-
see you soon

( 2.8 / 67 )I am at the beach for about 10 days. My "summer vacation".
I am a great believer that you have to recharge your batteries-and spending time out at my beach house is how I do it- But as you can see- it is Sunday morning and I am on the computer!
These days- even when I am on vacation- I am connected. I have a blackberry with me at the beach- my cell phone- so I am always accessable- and can reach my staff and important clients if I need to. Is that a vacation? I am more relexed because I am "connected" My wife even thinks it is a good idea-
thoughts for the day.... Are you connected all the time?
Can you get away from it all? Which is better- I don't know-
Let me know your thoughts...

( 3 / 83 )July 26
Well- thank you Steve Lillo my web site maven- I finally have a blog. I hope to update this on a weekly basis and hopefully get some nice discussions going. I have a newsletter that gooes out every other week ( sometimes every week) so please check in our newsletter section for past issues.
Also- If you haven't gotten your million dollar rolodex- please sign up for that.
I just came back from Mark Victor Hansen's Mega book marketing univserity in Orlando. Over 500 authors were there and I was amazing how many read our newsletter and listen to our teleseminars. We do them for FREE and we really want to help people- and help people write a proposal- get an agent- and get published.
It is very gratifying ( sp?) to hear that we are really helping people. After doing pr for about 30 years- the main thing I have learned is - it is not about the money- it is about changing lives. Forgive me for rambling- this is my first entry-so please add your comments and let me know what you would like to see here in future entires.
Please check out my company site http://www.plannedtvarts.com
My people are the best in the industry. I especially want to thank David Hahn who has been me for 20 years. It is nice when you have people like David (and Deb Kohan, Kristin Clifford, Sandy Trupp, Paul Schwartz, Brian Feinblum, Sharon Farnell- and many others) it makes my job easy- and they make me look good.
Ok that is it for now- future musings about pr, publishing and maybe we will even tall about George Bush a bit down the road!
Have fun
Rick
