“Networking Magic: Find the Best–from Doctors, Lawyers, and Accountants to Homes, Schools, and Restaurants by: Rick Frishman & Jill Lublin, Publisher: Adams Media,
ISBN: 1-59337-020-2, $12.95
This book is by the same pair of authors who brought you Guerrilla Publicity (a book that should already be on your desk with lots of sticky-note tabs). They have done it again with a fresh new look at the subject of building, analyzing, selecting, and maintaining networks that can get you ‘the best’ every time, whether that best is a doctor, lawyer, accountant, job, sweetheart, or whatever.
Understand, this is not a book devoted to how to snare that new account, it is about building your personal network such that those new accounts will seek you out. This was brought home to me in Chapter 3 where I discovered that I am my product, and that I am always on stage. It’s a thrilling and sobering thought, but a necessary kick in the backside for success.
My next question was: “How do I define who is best? Who is the best attorney, car-repairperson, or whomsoever at whatsoever?”
Chapter 5 lead me into a series of three simple steps to solve that problem. This led into Chapter 6 where I discovered how to position myself as ‘the best’ in the eyes of others, and frankly that was a welcome step in the development of my own network.
Towards the end of the book the authors take you through a workshop on using the internet to build your personal set of wide-ranging networks, and they add something many of us need…the Ken Glickman method of remembering ‘what’s her name’ you met yesterday (and boy, I needed that)!
This is a great book, and you absolutely must have it on your shelf. I understand it will be released sometime either in late summer or early fall, so get your name on the list. I give this book 5 stars. (Only the Bible and the Constitution receive 6 stars.)
